Physician malpractice (low-risk specialties)
The pricing variables for this profession.
Specialty + geography + claims history. Family medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, psychiatry without medication management, allergy / immunology run $7,500-$12,000/yr in low-litigation states. The same specialties in NY, CA, FL, NJ can be 2-3x. Mature physicians with no claim history get to the floor; new graduates start higher; physicians with prior claims pay materially more.
Which insurers fit this profession.
What the policy needs to include.
State-mandated minimums often $1M/$3M (per occurrence / aggregate). Many hospitals require $2M/$5M for credentialling. Tail coverage for retirement or specialty change non-negotiable — claims surface years after the encounter. Defence-outside-the-limit essential because medical defence is expensive.
What this profession actually gets sued for.
Failure to diagnose (most common — patient presents with symptoms, physician misses or delays diagnosis), medication errors, informed-consent disputes, follow-up failures. Most low-risk-specialty claims settle for under $250K but defence costs are real.
